Breaking: AAP Sarpanch shot dead at wedding function in Tarn Taran

Tarn Taran (Punjab), February 18, 2026: In a shocking broad daylight incident, Harbrinder Singh, the sitting Sarpanch of village Thathian Mahantan and reportedly associated with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), was shot dead by unidentified assailants during a wedding function in Tarn Taran district on Tuesday.
According to preliminary information, the Sarpanch had arrived at a private marriage palace to attend a wedding ceremony and was seated with close acquaintances when two to three armed attackers suddenly entered the premises. The assailants allegedly opened indiscriminate fire, specifically targeting Harbrinder Singh, who died on the spot.
In the firing, his cousin, identified as Germanjeet Singh, sustained serious bullet injuries and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. His condition is reported to be critical.
Upon receiving information, senior police officials reached the spot along with a heavy police force. The area has been cordoned off, and a manhunt has been launched to trace and apprehend the accused. Forensic teams are examining the scene, and CCTV footage from nearby locations is being scanned as part of the investigation.
Police officials stated that further details regarding the motive behind the attack are yet to be ascertained, and investigations are underway.
