Chandigarh, February 18, 2026: The Aam Aadmi Party on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on Sukhbir Singh Badal over the Shiromani Akali Dal’s ‘Punjab Bachao Yatra’, terming it a political exercise aimed at safeguarding his leadership rather than the state’s interests.
Addressing a press conference, senior AAP leader Jagroop Singh Sekhwan alleged that the Shiromani Akali Dal is grappling with internal discord and that the yatra reflects attempts to revive its waning political relevance.
“This is not a ‘Punjab Bachao Yatra’, it is a ‘Sukhbir Bachao Yatra’,” Sekhwan remarked, claiming that those who “looted Punjab during their tenure” are now staging political drama in the name of saving the state.
Taking a swipe at the party’s internal cohesion, the AAP leader pointed to the absence of senior Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia from the first rally of the yatra, questioning whether all was well within the party ranks.
“If the party is united, why did a prominent leader like Majithia remain absent from the inaugural rally?” Sekhwan asked, asserting that the visible cracks within the Akali Dal undermine its claims of solidarity.
He further stated that the people of Punjab are aware of what he described as “political tactics” and argued that a party struggling with internal divisions cannot claim to safeguard the state’s future.
