Amritsar (Punjab), February 21, 2026: Leaders and MLAs of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) staged a black-flag protest against Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini during his visit to Amritsar on Saturday. Donning black bands and waving black flags, AAP members opposed Saini’s presence, criticizing the BJP for what they described as a persistent anti-Punjab stance.
Saini had arrived in Amritsar to attend a rally at Dana Mandi and participate in a Saini community function. However, outside the venue, local AAP leaders and supporters demonstrated against his convoy, expressing resentment over the alleged discriminatory attitude of the BJP-led central government towards Punjab.
AAP MLAs Jeevan Jyot Kaur, Inderbir Singh Nijjar, Dr. Ajay Gupta, along with district presidents and party functionaries, led the protest. They were joined by a large crowd of local supporters.
Speaking to the media, Jeevan Jyot Kaur said, “We are protesting today to ask, with what face is the BJP coming to Punjab? The public knows very well that the BJP has blocked Punjab’s rightful funds for health, education, and development. Punjabis are aware of the party’s anti-farmer, anti-trade, and anti-education policies. People here will not be fooled by false propaganda.”
AAP leader Neel Garg added, “The Haryana Chief Minister should focus on his own state rather than seeking political mileage in Punjab. Punjab ranks better than Haryana in law and order, with fewer crimes and atrocities against women and Dalits. Central reports clearly show Punjab’s law and order record is stronger than Haryana’s. Before lecturing Punjab, Haryana must introspect.”
Garg also countered BJP’s claims regarding farmers’ debt, noting that Punjab’s farmers saw a significant increase in debt during the BJP’s tenure in the state, and that debt levels in Punjab and Haryana are not substantially different.
