Nitish Kumar announces to resign as CM, says wants to serve in Parliament

Patna, March 5, 2026: In a surprise development Nitish Kumar has announced his resignation as Chief Minister and said that he wants to serve Parliament as Rajya Sabha member.

For more than the past two decades, you have consistently maintained your trust and support in me, and based on that strength, we have served Bihar and all of you with complete dedication. It was the power of your trust and support that Bihar is presenting a new dimension of development and respect today. I have expressed my gratitude to you for this many times in the past as well.
Since the beginning of my parliamentary life, I had a desire to become a member of both houses of the Bihar Legislature as well as both houses of the Parliament. In this context, I wish to become a member of the Rajya Sabha in the upcoming elections.
I want to assure you with all sincerity that my relationship with you will continue in the future as well, and the resolve to build a developed Bihar together will remain as firm as ever. I will provide my full cooperation and guidance to the new government that will be formed.
