Ranjit Singh Encounter case: HC issues notice to Punjab govt on petition of his mother

Chandigarh, March 6, 2026: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued a notice to the Government of Punjab on a petition filed by the mother of Ranjit Singh, questioning the circumstances surrounding his alleged police encounter.
The court has scheduled the next hearing in the matter for May 25. The petition challenges the police version of the encounter and seeks a judicial examination of the incident.
Ranjit Singh had been accused in the killing of an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and a Home Guard jawan in Gurdaspur. The alleged encounter later came under scrutiny after his family raised questions about the circumstances in which he was killed.
