PNG connection holder to surrender LPG connection

Chandigarh, March 15, 2026: The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has updated rules under the Essential Commodities Act, stating that households with a Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connection will no longer be eligible to keep domestic Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders.
According to the revised guidelines issued by the ministry, the move aims to streamline the distribution of domestic cooking fuel and prevent duplication of benefits where households already have access to piped gas supply.
Under the new rule, consumers who currently hold both PNG and LPG connections will be required to surrender their LPG connection. Authorities have also clarified that LPG refill bookings will not be allowed for households that have an active PNG connection.
