Chandigarh, March 16, 2026:Marking four years of the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday said his administration has delivered on its promises through what he described as “politics of work,” asserting that the trust placed in the government by the people has not been broken.
Addressing the media, Mann said the government had fulfilled most of the guarantees made to voters within four years, something he claimed many parties fail to achieve even during a full five-year term.
He recalled taking oath in 2022 at the native village of Bhagat Singh, stating that the government had since taken several people-centric decisions aimed at restoring Punjab’s growth and prosperity.
Highlighting key achievements, the Chief Minister said the government has provided free electricity to most households, ensured uninterrupted daytime power supply for farmers, and expanded canal irrigation coverage to nearly 78 percent of agricultural land.
He also claimed that over 65,000 government jobs have been provided on merit, while record private investment has generated around 5.5 lakh employment opportunities.
Mann said the expansion of healthcare services through Aam Aadmi Clinics and free treatment up to ₹10 lakh under state health schemes has significantly improved access to medical care.
He added that the government has also strengthened its campaign against drug trafficking through the initiative Yudh Nashean Virudh.
Speaking about education reforms, Mann said Punjab’s government schools have witnessed major improvements under the Sikhya Kranti initiative, with thousands of smart classrooms, computer labs, and new desks introduced to improve learning conditions.
He also highlighted teacher training programmes conducted in international institutions and management institutes.
The Chief Minister further pointed to investments in sports infrastructure, rural development and road networks, along with the creation of village playgrounds and gyms to encourage youth participation in sports.
In agriculture, he said farmers are receiving uninterrupted daytime electricity and improved canal irrigation following large-scale restoration of watercourses.
On law and order, Mann said the government’s anti-gangster campaign Gangsteraan Te Vaar and operations by the police have resulted in thousands of arrests and the dismantling of several criminal and terror networks.
He also noted that the establishment of the Sadak Surakhya Force has contributed to a significant decline in road accident fatalities.
Highlighting economic progress, the Chief Minister said Punjab has attracted investments worth about ₹1.55 lakh crore during the past four years, supported by new industrial policies and simplified approvals through digital governance platforms.
Taking a swipe at opposition parties, Mann said while the Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal and the BJP remain focused on political power, his government is committed to rebuilding Punjab and ensuring development. He also criticised the Centre for allegedly withholding certain funds meant for the state.
Looking ahead, Mann announced that Punjab is likely to host the upcoming Asia Cup Hockey Championship, with matches expected in Jalandhar and Mohali.
He also revealed plans to build an international-standard cricket stadium in Amritsar and said Tata Steel is set to begin operations in Punjab on March 20.
Concluding his remarks, the Chief Minister said the government’s priority remains strengthening governance, tackling unemployment and corruption, and ensuring that Punjab continues on a path of development and stability.
