Punjab and Haryana Bar Council elections on 17-18 March

Chandigarh, March 17, 2026: Punjab and Haryana Bar Council election is being held on 17 and 18 March. This election is conducted every 5 year but this time election is taking place after 8 years.
Bar Council is a Constitutional body which issues licenses to lawyers and decides on disputes between lawyers and their clients. It Chairman get government car with red light. 25 member Bar Council has 18 male and 5 female members.
Punjab and Haryana Advocate General are its nominated members. After orders of Supreme Court first time female lawyers are given 30 percent reservation. Out of 157 candidates 53 are women. Today March 17 voting is taking place from 9.00 to 5.00 pm at polling booths established in High Court Chandigarh, District Courts Chandigarh, Debt Recovery Tribunal and Central Administrative Tribunal. 17540 lawyers will exercise their right to vote.
On March 18 lawyers of Punjab and Haryana can exercise their right to vote in their district or tehsil court complexes. A total of 1 lakh 14 thousand 758 lawyers are voters this time.
