Mathura Boat Tragedy: Bodies reach Jagraon, city shuts down amid wave of mourning

Jagraon (Punjab), April 11, 2026: A pall of grief has descended over Jagraon after the bodies of devotees who died in a tragic boat accident in Vrindavan were brought back to the town on Saturday morning.
So far, the bodies of Kavita Behal (mother) – Madhur Behal (son) – Charanjit (husband) – Pinky (wife) – Ishan Kataria has reached Jagroan. The adminsitration to death of 10 in this boat tragedy.
The victims, who had travelled for pilgrimage, lost their lives when a boat capsized in the Yamuna River on Friday afternoon. Their mortal remains reached their homes around 10:30 am, triggering scenes of deep sorrow and anguish.
Emotional scenes unfolded as grieving families broke down upon receiving the bodies of their loved ones. Neighbours and residents gathered in large numbers to offer condolences, with the entire locality enveloped in silence and grief.
In a mark of respect and solidarity, a complete shutdown was observed across the city. Markets remained closed and normal life came to a standstill as traders and social organisations supported the ‘Jagraon Bandh’ call.
Punjab Chief Minsiter Bhagwant Mann is expected to visit Jagraon to express condolences to the bereaved families. He will also attend the last rites of the victims and pay homage.
The tragic incident has left the entire region in shock, with prayers pouring in for the departed souls and strength for the grieving families.
