Breaking: Centre approves Wheat Procurement relaxation for Punjab after untimely rains
Babuhshai Bureau
New Delhi, April 17, 2026: The Centre has approved relaxation in wheat procurement norms for Punjab and the Union Territory of Chandigarh following reports of crop damage due to unseasonal rainfall.
Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said the request for relaxation was received on April 9, 2026, after which assessment teams were immediately deployed across districts on April 10 to evaluate the situation on the ground.
Based on field reports, the government has allowed procurement relaxations under the Rabi Marketing Season (RMS) 2026–27 across all districts of Punjab and Chandigarh. The revised norms will come into effect from the beginning of the procurement season.
The decision is expected to provide relief to farmers affected by adverse weather conditions and help prevent distress sales of wheat.
