Amritsar (Punjab), April 19: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has welcomed the approval granted by the Punjab Governor to the bill aimed at awarding strict punishment for acts of sacrilege against Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
Expressing his support, Dhami said that protecting the religious sentiments of the Sikh community and ensuring respect for the Guru Granth Sahib Ji is of utmost importance, and such unfortunate incidents must be completely eradicated.
He stated that while the law is a positive step, it is equally necessary to expose the forces behind such acts and eliminate the problem from its roots. He stressed that Sikh society must remain vigilant, aware, and committed to preserving the sanctity and respect of the holy scripture.
Advocate Dhami further said that any law can only be effective if implemented with strong political will. He noted that despite existing legal provisions in the past, perpetrators of sacrilege incidents often escaped punishment, highlighting the need for strict enforcement and accountability.
