Chandigarh, April 19, 2026: Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal has raised concerns over the Punjab government awarding the Mohali Next Generation Roads Programme to a Hisar (Haryana)-based construction company, questioning transparency, rising costs, and procedural clarity in the project.
The issue, first reported by The Tribune, highlights that the project involving 83.4 km of road upgradation and beautification in Mohali is already under legal challenge, with petitions pending before the High Court over the bidding process.
Reacting to the development, Badal said awarding the contract despite ongoing court proceedings and repeated revisions in project scope and cost raises serious questions about governance and public accountability.
He pointed out that the financial outgo has increased significantly beyond initial estimates, with concerns over escalation under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM), which he said needs urgent scrutiny.
Badal demanded that the state government ensure full transparency in the execution of public projects and respect the ongoing judicial process before moving ahead with implementation.
