Punjab: Student ends life after allegedly being forced to stand in Sun as punishment

Gurdaspur (Punjab), May 2, 2026: A 15-year-old student from Jhanda Lubana village in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district died after allegedly being punished by authorities at a private school in Dasua, triggering outrage among family members and fellow students.
According to information, the student, Navjot Singh, was studying in Class 10 when he was reportedly made to stand in the sun for two periods over a minor issue on April 27. Soon after, he allegedly consumed a poisonous substance and was rushed to hospital, where he remained under treatment for several days before succumbing.
The incident has led to strong reactions, with students and locals accusing the school management of harsh disciplinary practices and demanding strict action. Several students who attended the cremation also spoke out against the administration and sought justice for the victim’s family.
Confirming the development, Kulwant Singh Mann said that a case has been registered against the school management and further investigation is underway.
The incident has once again raised concerns over student safety and disciplinary practices in educational institutions.
