IMD issues rain alert for Punjab, showers likely till May 7

Chandigarh, May 2, 2026: The India Meteorological Department has forecast a spell of rain across Punjab and Haryana till May 7 due to an active Western Disturbance over the Himalayan region.
According to the weather department, rainfall is likely on May 2, 3, 6 and 7, bringing much-needed relief from the ongoing heat. Residents of Punjab and Chandigarh can expect a drop in temperatures over the next five days.
The Meteorological Centre Chandigarh has issued a yellow alert, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds of 30–40 kmph at several places. Light to moderate rainfall is expected in multiple districts.
Officials said the average temperature has already dipped by around 1.1°C, now remaining nearly 2.8°C below normal. Bathinda recorded the highest temperature at 39.9°C.
The department has also predicted thunderstorms and rain activity in at least seven districts on Saturday.
