Pakistan’s ISI behind Amritsar, Jalandhar blasts; DGP Gaurav Yadav warns of strong action

Amritsar/Jalandhar, May 6, 2026 (ANI): Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Tuesday alleged that Pakistan’s intelligence agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) was behind the recent low-intensity blasts reported near an Army camp in Amritsar and in Jalandhar, calling it a “deep-rooted conspiracy” to disturb peace in the state.
Addressing a press conference in Amritsar, the DGP said the explosion occurred around 10 pm near the boundary wall of the Khasa Army camp. Following the incident, senior Punjab Police officials, teams of the Border Security Force (BSF), and bomb disposal squads rushed to the spot. The area was sanitised and samples were collected for forensic examination.
An FIR has been registered under relevant sections, and multiple teams are conducting investigations using both human and technical intelligence, officials said.
DGP Yadav stated that preliminary findings suggest the use of improvised explosive devices (IEDs), possibly triggered through a timer or remote mechanism. He further claimed that the blasts were timed around the anniversary of “Operation Sindoor” to create panic in Punjab.
“Pakistan’s ISI is waging a proxy war against India through Punjab. Being a border state, Punjab is on the frontline,” he said.
Reacting to claims of responsibility by the Khalistan Liberation Army (KLA), the DGP dismissed the outfit as a “non-existent group” acting as a proxy for the ISI. He alleged that such groups misuse social media to mislead youth and lure them into unlawful activities.
Issuing a stern warning, Yadav said Punjab Police would take strict action against anti-national elements. “Those trying to disturb Punjab’s peace will be crushed,” he asserted.
The DGP maintained that Punjab remains a peaceful state and said security has been significantly strengthened. He highlighted that around 3,400 constables are being recruited this year, over 2,300 CCTV cameras have been installed across the state, and anti-drone systems along with a second line of defence have been reinforced.
He also noted that joint monitoring is being carried out in coordination with the Army and BSF. Authorities have obtained crucial CCTV footage and expressed confidence that those responsible will be arrested soon.
