Punjab CM protecting corruption, not fighting it: Sunil Jakhar amid ED raids

Chandigarh, May 9, 2026:Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar on Friday accused the Punjab government of shielding corruption and defending individuals allegedly linked to land-related scams currently under investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
In a statement issued in Chandigarh, Jakhar said the ED action was not directed against private individuals arbitrarily, but against those accused of illegally profiting from land acquired from farmers at low prices and later commercially exploited through alleged irregular real-estate dealings.
The BJP leader claimed the controversy was not limited to Punjab ministers Aman Arora or Sanjeev Arora personally, but involved alleged misuse of Change of Land Use (CLU) permissions to convert agricultural land for commercial gain.
Referring to a project in Mohali, Jakhar alleged that associates close to Aman Arora were linked to irregularities involving nearly 30 acres of land in the Suntec City project and alleged undervaluation of property amounting to around ₹170 crore.
He further alleged that in Ludhiana, Sanjeev Arora’s firm, Hampton Sky Realty, misused around 40 acres of land through fraudulent CLU approvals.
Jakhar said land originally acquired from farmers for industrial purposes was allegedly diverted toward residential and commercial projects. He argued that if industries were never established, the land should have reverted to the farmers instead of being used for large-scale profit generation.
Taking a direct swipe at Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the BJP leader said that if the government was truly committed to honesty and transparency, it would have acted against alleged corruption instead of defending those under scrutiny.
Jakhar further said that after the slogan of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,” the time had now come for “Sabka Hisaab,” asserting that accountability should apply to all political leaders and power centres.
He also alleged that individuals allegedly influencing Punjab’s governance from Delhi would eventually face investigation as well.
The BJP leader concluded by claiming that the people of Punjab were fully aware of what he described as widespread corruption and were now demanding accountability from the ruling Aam Aadmi Party government.
