New Delhi, May 12, 2026:The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) has set up a special education service counter outside Gurudwara Bangla Sahib to support children from economically weaker families by providing essential educational materials free of cost.
DSGMC President Harmeet Singh Kalka said the initiative aims to connect underprivileged children with education and help fulfil their basic academic needs.
He informed that the service counter has been stocked with educational items donated by members of the Sangat, including books, notebooks, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, diaries, school bags and other study materials. These supplies are being distributed to families who are unable to bear the educational expenses of their children.
Harmeet Singh Kalka said education has become one of the greatest necessities in modern society and the DSGMC is launching the project as part of its social and Panthic responsibility.
“If the community has to progress, it is extremely important to connect children with quality education,” he said.
He described the initiative as not merely a welfare activity but a sacred effort to spread the light of knowledge in society. Kalka also expressed happiness over the enthusiastic participation of the Sangat, with devotees contributing books, notebooks, bags and other educational materials for the campaign.
He said the DSGMC’s role is to efficiently manage the service, while the true strength behind the initiative lies in the spirit of seva and Dasvandh contributed by the Sangat. Just as devotees contribute towards langar and other charitable services, “education donation” is now also emerging as a meaningful form of seva, he added.
Kalka appealed to people to contribute generously towards the education service campaign by donating educational materials instead of cash so that assistance can reach the maximum number of needy children.
He further informed that proper systems have been put in place to ensure transparency and organisation in the distribution process. Records of donors are being maintained, while Aadhaar and need-based details of beneficiary families are being verified to ensure that aid reaches genuinely deserving children.
The DSGMC President urged the Sangat to actively support the initiative and help brighten the future of underprivileged children through education.
