Last day for filing nominations for Municipal Council elections; total 203 nominations filed
SBS Nagar, May 16, 2026:As per the schedule issued by the State Election Commission, Punjab regarding the General Elections-2026 for Municipal Councils, a total of 112 nominations were received on the last day of filing nominations for three Municipal Councils in the district, taking the total number of nominations filed so far to 203.
Deputy Commissioner-cum- District Election Officer Gulpreet Singh Aulakh, while sharing further details in this regard, said that today 47 nominations were received for 19 wards of Municipal Council Nawanshahr, 25 nominations for 15 wards of Municipal Council Banga and 40 nominations for 13 wards of Municipal Council Rahon.
Similarly, a total of 88 nominations have been received for Municipal Council Nawanshahr, 65 for Municipal Council Banga and 50 for Municipal Council Rahon.
He informed that May 16 from 11 am to 3 pm was the last time for filing nomination papers. He further stated that scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on May 18, 2026, and candidates can withdraw their nomination papers till 3 pm on May 19, 2026.
He said that polling will be held on May 26, 2026 from 8 am to 5 pm, while counting of votes will take place on May 29, 2026.
