FIR against 300+ after alleged attack on Congress leaders in Talwandi Bhai, Warring, Zira demand strict action
Ferozepur, May 17, 2026:Police at Talwandi Bhai have registered FIR No. 0057 on May 17, 2026, at 4:59 am against Lakha Singh, Gurbhaj Singh, Amreek Singh, Mani, Rajwinder Singh and nearly 300 unidentified persons in connection with the alleged assault on Congress halqa in-charge Ashu Bangar and Municipal Council candidate Kuldeep Kaur.
The case has been registered under Sections 109, 126, 115(2), 324, 191(3) and 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 along with Section 25 of the Arms Act, 1959.
The FIR came after Congress workers held a prolonged protest and blocked traffic at Talwandi Bhai Chowk on the Ferozepur-Ludhiana National Highway, demanding immediate legal action against the accused.
Leading the agitation, former MLA and District Congress Committee president Kulbir Singh Zira alleged that certain police officials were accused the administration of failing to ensure the safety of Congress leaders and workers.
In a show of support, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring reached the protest site late in the evening and addressed the gathering. Appreciating the workers for continuing the dharna despite difficult weather conditions, Warring alleged that the attack was orchestrated under the influence of a DSP-rank police officer and called for strict and impartial action against all those responsible.
