Haryana to set up Maharana Pratap Chair at Kurukshetra University

Kurukshetra (Haryana), May 17, 2026: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday announced the establishment of a Maharana Pratap Chair and Study Centre at Kurukshetra University while addressing a state-level function organised in Shahzadpur, Ambala, on the occasion of Maharana Pratap Jayanti.
The Chief Minister also announced that the Government Women’s College at Baragadh in Shahzadpur would be renamed after Maharani Padmavati.
The programme was organised under the “Sant-Mahapurush Samman Evam Vichar Prasar Yojana” and was attended by Vijay Kumar Singh as the chief guest.
During the event, Saini announced Rs 5 crore for development works in the Naraingarh Assembly constituency, Rs 31 lakh for the construction of a Rajput hostel and the construction of a pucca drain in Shahzadpur. He also unveiled a renovated statue of Maharana Pratap.
Speaking at the gathering, the Chief Minister described Maharana Pratap as a symbol of courage, patriotism and self-respect. He said the Rajput ruler chose hardship and struggle over surrender and spent years fighting to protect Mewar and preserve Indian culture and values.
Saini said Maharana Pratap’s life continues to inspire the nation and added that his ideals of bravery, sacrifice and protecting cultural heritage remain relevant even today.
Referring to recent national security developments, the Haryana Chief Minister also mentioned Operation Sindoor and praised the leadership of Narendra Modi, saying India was emerging as a strong nation on the global stage.
Meanwhile, Mizoram Governor Vijay Kumar Singh said every Indian should draw inspiration from Maharana Pratap’s life, dedication and sense of duty. He highlighted the Rajput ruler’s military strategies and commitment to public welfare despite personal hardships.
Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana also addressed the event and spoke about Maharana Pratap’s bravery, the Battle of Haldighati and the sacrifices made by generations of Rajput warriors for the country.
Several ministers, MLAs and senior leaders were present during the programme.
