Statue of Shaheed Madan Lal Dhingra unveiled at Gol Bagh Memorial in Amritsar

Amritsar (Punjab), May 20, 2026 — A new statue of revolutionary freedom fighter Madan Lal Dhingra was unveiled with great respect and patriotism at the Shaheed Madan Lal Dhingra Memorial in Gol Bagh, Amritsar, on Tuesday.
The ceremony witnessed the participation of social workers, educationists, representatives of various organisations and a large number of local residents. The event was organised to honour the sacrifice of the legendary revolutionary and inspire younger generations with his contribution to India’s freedom struggle.
Former minister Laxmikanta Chawla addressed the gathering and spoke in detail about the life, patriotism and sacrifices of Madan Lal Dhingra. She said Dhingra was among the great revolutionaries who sacrificed their lives with courage and dedication for the country’s independence.
She urged the youth to learn from the lives of freedom fighters and stay connected with the nation’s history and values. Highlighting Dhingra’s role in the freedom movement, she said that despite living abroad, he never gave up his dream of a free India and strongly opposed British rule.
During the event, people paid floral tributes to the martyr after the unveiling of the statue. Patriotic slogans and songs filled the memorial premises as attendees remembered the revolutionary hero.
Laxmikanta Chawla also stated that the Shaheed Madan Lal Dhingra Memorial at Gol Bagh had been established by the Punjab Government through her efforts. She appealed to both the Punjab Government and the Central Government to bring items related to Dhingra’s life from London and preserve them at the memorial so that future generations could learn more about the freedom fighter.
Several prominent citizens, including Mala Chawla, Dr. Rakesh Sharma, Principal Pushpraj Ji, Anil Pathak, Pawan Kumar Goyal, Kulwant, Neelam Sharma, Rajpal, Dharmendra and Kishore Chadha, were also present at the ceremony.
