Chandigarh, May 20, 2026 — A fuel supply crisis has emerged in Punjab, with several districts reporting dry petrol pumps, triggering concern among the public and the farming community. The Petrol Pump Dealers Association Punjab has formally written to the Chief Secretary of the state, urging immediate intervention to restore regular fuel supply across the state.
In its communication, the Petrol Pump Dealers Association Punjab highlighted severe shortages of petrol and diesel, particularly affecting outlets of major oil marketing companies. The association stated that multiple petrol pumps have completely run dry due to disruptions in the supply chain, leading to operational difficulties and financial losses for dealers.
The association has raised concerns over supply inconsistencies from Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, alleging that despite dealers fulfilling all requirements—including advance payments—regular fuel supply is not being maintained.
According to the letter submitted to the Chief Secretary, dealers are also being allegedly pressured to purchase higher-priced premium fuel in order to receive regular petrol and diesel allocations. The association claims that supply is being linked to mandatory “premium fuel indenting,” creating additional financial strain on petrol pump operators.
The crisis has begun affecting daily life in several parts of the state. Farmers, in particular, are facing difficulties as diesel shortages are disrupting agricultural operations during a crucial period. Public transport and local commuting have also been impacted in areas where pumps have run dry.
The association has urged the Punjab government to intervene immediately and direct oil companies to ensure uninterrupted and fair distribution of fuel across all districts.
It has been warned that if the situation continues, it could escalate into a wider logistical and economic disruption across the state.
