Major decision by Bhagwant Mann on deciding education toppers, now merit will be sole criteria, no consideration of age factor

Chandigarh, May 31, 2026: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann today announced to bring major changes in deciding merit of students in school examinations by state education boards/educational institutions.
Addressing meritorious students after honouring them here, Punjab CM said that now only merit will be sole factor to decide positions. He said that earlier practice of considering age factor if two students secure same numbers will be done away and both students will get same rank. He said that now onwards these changes will be implemented immediately in education field.
