DEO-cum-DC Ferozepur commends poll staff, thanks voters for peaceful Municipal Elections
Ferozepur, May 31, 2026: The results of the Municipal Council elections in Ferozepur district were officially declared on Saturday, with the electoral process being conducted peacefully, transparently, and efficiently, according to Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Deep Shikha Sharma.
Sharing the results, the District Election Officer stated that in the 33 wards of Ferozepur Municipal Council, the Congress secured a clear lead by winning 18 wards. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 7 wards, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) secured 5 wards, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) won 1 ward, while two Independent candidates also emerged victorious.
In Zira Municipal Council, AAP emerged as the largest party by winning 9 of the 17 wards, while Congress won 7 wards and one Independent candidate registered a victory. In Talwandi Bhai Municipal Council, AAP won 5 of the 13 wards, Congress secured 3 wards, Shiromani Akali Dal won 2 wards, BJP captured 1 ward, and two Independent candidates were elected.
Among the notable results in Ferozepur city, Congress candidates recorded several comfortable victories, including Parmjit Kaur Handa from Ward No. 11 with a margin of 1,472 votes and Prem Rani from Ward No. 31 with a margin of 1,065 votes. One of the closest contests was witnessed in Ward No. 15, where Congress candidate Sukhwinder Kaur won by a single vote. BJP’s Savita Kapoor secured Ward No. 23 by a narrow margin of just three votes.
In Talwandi Bhai, AAP’s Anu Bajaj registered a convincing victory from Ward No. 1 with a margin of 529 votes, while Shiromani Akali Dal candidates also made their presence felt by winning two wards.
In Zira, AAP maintained a strong performance across several wards, while Congress and an Independent candidate also secured significant victories. AAP candidate Dharam Pal Chugh recorded one of the largest winning margins in the town, winning Ward No. 8 by 707 votes.
Deputy Commissioner Deep Shikha Sharma appreciated the efforts of the entire election machinery, police administration, and all officials and employees associated with the conduct of the elections. She also thanked political parties, voters, and the general public for maintaining peace, discipline, and democratic values throughout the election process and for their wholehearted cooperation in ensuring the successful completion of the polls.
