Amritsar (Punjab), June 6, 2026: Religious ceremonies were held at Sri Akal Takht Sahib on Friday to mark the 42nd anniversary of Operation Blue Star. The observance began with the Bhog ceremony, following which Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, addressed the Sikh community and delivered a message at 8 a.m.
On the occasion, Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) president Simranjit Singh Mann made several remarks concerning contemporary Sikh religious and political issues.
Mann alleged that many people wanted to kill him and claimed that he faced threats to his life. He also criticised Harnam Singh Khalsa, stating that the latter had distanced himself from the teachings and ideology of the Sikh saints.
Continuing his criticism, Mann further alleged that Harnam Singh Khalsa had weakened and undermined the legacy of the Damdami Taksal, a prominent Sikh religious institution.
The statements came as Sikh organisations and devotees gathered in Amritsar to commemorate the anniversary of Operation Blue Star and remember those who lost their lives during the June 1984 military operation at the Golden Temple complex.
