MLA Dahiya chairs meeting to strengthen role of 'Village and Ward Defence Committees'
Calls upon VDC Members to play an active role in building a 'Drug-Free Society'
Ferozepur, June 6, 2026: A special meeting of members of Village Defence Committees (VDCs) and Ward Defence Committees (WDCs) was organized today in Ferozepur City, under the leadership of MLA Ferozepur Rural, Rajneesh Kumar Dahiya, with the objective of strengthening the Punjab Government’s ongoing “War Against Drugs” campaign and enhancing awareness at the grassroots level.
Addressing the gathering, MLA Dahiya emphasized that Village and Ward Defence Committees have a crucial role to play in the creation of a drug-free society. He said that the Punjab Government has launched an extensive statewide campaign, “War Against Drugs,” which has yielded encouraging results. However, public participation remains essential for the campaign’s continued success.
The MLA urged VDC members to spread awareness against drug abuse in their respective areas, report suspicious activities to the administration, and motivate youth to participate in sports and other constructive activities. He also held discussions with constituency in-charges, block coordinators, volunteers, panchayat representatives, and VDC members on strengthening public awareness initiatives, keeping young people away from drugs, and ensuring that government welfare schemes reach every household.
Dahiya called upon all stakeholders to actively contribute towards making society drug-free and supporting the government’s efforts to eliminate the menace of drugs.
Among those present on the occasion were SDM Ferozepur Abhishek Sharma, DSP Karan Sharma, and District Coordinator of the “War Against Drugs” campaign, Kaka Saran. The officials briefed VDC members about their responsibilities and the guidelines issued by the government.
During the meeting, the participants assured the administration and the government of their full cooperation in creating a drug-free and safe society.
