Chandigarh, June 8, 2026: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Monday called upon the newly appointed constituency heads of the Istri Akali Dal to strengthen the party’s grassroots network by constituting booth-level committees across Punjab.
Addressing the first meeting of the newly appointed constituency heads of the women wing, attended by Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Istri Akali Dal president Hargobind Kaur, Sukhbir Badal stressed the need to build a strong organisational structure from the booth level upwards.
He directed the women leaders to appoint booth presidents, form booth committees and constitute circle-level units to ensure effective outreach and coordination with party constituency in-charges and other SAD wings.
“The strength of the party lies at the grassroots level. A strong booth-level structure is essential to further strengthen the Shiromani Akali Dal and connect with people across Punjab,” Badal said.
Speaking on the occasion, Harsimrat Kaur Badal described the women wing as a catalyst for political change and alleged that women in Punjab have been adversely affected by the policies of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government.
She claimed that several welfare initiatives had been curtailed and questioned the implementation of the state government’s financial assistance promises for women. Harsimrat urged women to raise their voices on issues affecting their families and communities.
Istri Akali Dal president Hargobind Kaur said the women wing would intensify its outreach programme and highlight issues concerning women across the state. She also announced plans to launch an agitation to hold the state government accountable over what she termed anti-women and anti-Punjab policies.
The meeting focused on strengthening the organisational structure of the women wing and preparing for future political and public outreach campaigns across Punjab.
