Barnala (Punjab), June 13, 2026: A 25-year-old air-conditioner mechanic lost his life in a powerful explosion while repairing an AC unit at a house in Barnala on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Sikandar Singh, a resident of Thikriwala village near Barnala. The incident occurred at a residence in Lane No. 11 on KC Road, where Singh had gone along with his colleagues to repair a malfunctioning air conditioner.
According to initial reports, a sudden and powerful blast occurred while the repair work was underway, triggering panic in the neighbourhood. The sound of the explosion was heard across the area, prompting local residents to rush to the spot.
Sikandar Singh sustained severe injuries in the blast and was immediately taken to a nearby hospital. However, doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
Hospital official Dr. Gurmahir Dhillon said the victim was brought to the hospital at around 1:30 pm after an accident during AC servicing. He stated that an AC cylinder reportedly exploded during the repair process, causing critical injuries to the mechanic, who had already succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital.
Police reached the scene after being informed of the incident and have taken possession of the body for post-mortem examination. A probe has been initiated to determine the exact cause of the explosion.
Preliminary assessments suggest the blast may have been caused by a technical fault or excessive gas pressure in the AC compressor or cylinder during servicing.
