Chandigarh, June 19, 2026: Shiromani Akali Dal MLA Manpreet Singh Iyali has said that he will appear before Sri Akal Takht Sahib on June 29 and fully comply with any directive issued by the highest temporal seat of the Sikhs.
The statement came after Sri Akal Takht Sahib summoned Sikh legislators in connection with discussions surrounding legislation related to sacrilege cases.
Speaking on the issue, the Dakha MLA said he remains fully committed to the authority and sanctity of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and would present himself before the Takht as a humble Sikh.
“I will appear before Sri Akal Takht Sahib on June 29, present my position, and abide by every directive and decision issued by the Takht,” Iyali said.
The Akali MLA also took a swipe at the Punjab Government, urging it to refrain from adopting what he termed a policy of confrontation on sensitive religious and Panthic matters.
He said issues related to sacrilege are deeply connected to the sentiments of the Sikh community and should be handled with seriousness and responsibility.
“Strict implementation of laws and ensuring justice in sacrilege cases is essential. Such sensitive matters should not become a subject of political confrontation,” he said.
The statement assumes significance as Sri Akal Takht Sahib recently directed all Sikh MLAs in Punjab to appear before it in connection with the ongoing discourse surrounding laws related to sacrilege and religious matters.
The summons issued by the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib has sparked considerable political and religious discussion in Punjab, with leaders from different parties expected to present their views before the Takht.
Iyali’s remarks make him one of the first legislators to publicly confirm his appearance before Sri Akal Takht Sahib and reaffirm his commitment to accepting its decisions.
