Chandigarh, June 20, 2026:Punjab Police’s growing strength lies not only in the experience of its senior officers but also in the energy, determination and technological proficiency of thousands of young personnel serving across the state, Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said on Saturday.
Highlighting the force's evolving profile, the DGP said that young officers are playing a crucial role in strengthening frontline policing, improving response capabilities and enhancing the state’s fight against crime and organized gangs.
“I take pride in the fact that thousands of youngsters are serving as Punjab Police’s frontline force, ensuring the safety and security of people across the state. Punjab Police is capable of tackling criminals under any circumstances, and our young personnel are strengthening that capability every day,” said DGP Gaurav Yadav.
According to official data, Punjab Police currently has 8,231 personnel below the age of 29, including 4,253 officers and employees between 27 and 29 years of age and 3,978 below the age of 27. Their presence across various ranks—from constables to Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs)—has helped the force adopt a more dynamic and technology-driven approach to law enforcement.
The figures reveal that the force includes 6,666 constables, 973 senior constables, 347 sub-inspectors and 186 head constables below the age of 29. Of the total young constables, 3,855 are between 20 and 26 years old, while 1,198 are aged 29, 1,125 are 28 years old and 488 are 27 years old.
Officials said the recruitment initiatives undertaken by the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann have played a significant role in bringing fresh talent into the police force, helping create a strong balance between youthful energy and experienced leadership.
The youthful profile of the force has also complemented Punjab Police’s modernization efforts. The department has strengthened citizen-centric services through its digital platforms and ensured that all police stations across the state are equipped with women help desks to provide better assistance to the public.
Meanwhile, Punjab Police is set to become even stronger with the ongoing recruitment drive for 3,298 constable posts. The Computer-Based Test (CBT) for the recruitment process is scheduled to begin on July 1, 2026.
Senior officials believe that the addition of new recruits will further enhance frontline policing, improve coordination with citizens and strengthen the force’s ability to maintain law and order across Punjab.
With thousands of young officers already serving on the ground and more set to join the ranks, Punjab Police is positioning itself as a modern, agile and future-ready force capable of meeting evolving security challenges while ensuring public safety throughout the state.
