Amritsar (Punjab), June 20, 2026: Sri Akal Takht Sahib has made public the position presented by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann regarding a controversial video that was discussed during proceedings before the Sikh temporal seat earlier this year.
According to a statement, when Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann appeared before Sri Akal Takht Sahib on January 15, 2026, in connection with various matters under consideration, he was questioned about an objectionable video that had sparked controversy. Responding to the issue, Mann reportedly described the video as “completely fake” and maintained that it should be subjected to forensic examination.
The Chief Minister is said to have told the Akal Takht that the era of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has made it possible to create fabricated videos and that similar AI-generated content had been circulated not only about him but also about many other individuals. He further stated that he could identify the video’s alleged falsity even without forensic analysis, though he remained open to an official investigation.
During the proceedings, Jathedar Giani Kuldip Singh Gargajj asked the Chief Minister to suggest two government forensic laboratories capable of examining the video. Mann agreed that an investigation should be conducted and reportedly expressed willingness to facilitate such an examination.
Addressing the matter, Jathedar Gargajj emphasized that the issue was linked to the dignity of the Gurus and therefore required a careful and impartial approach. He said that if the video proved to be false, no individual’s character should be tarnished. At the same time, he maintained that only a scientific forensic examination could establish whether the video was genuine or fabricated.
The Chief Minister reportedly informed the Jathedar that any forensic examination could be conducted under the latter’s supervision and through a laboratory of his choosing. When asked whether the video had already undergone forensic testing, Mann referred to a court order which, according to him, had held the video to be false.
However, Jathedar Gargajj responded that he had reviewed the court order and found that no forensic investigation into the video had been directed by the court. Following this exchange, the Chief Minister reiterated his readiness to undergo a forensic examination if Sri Akal Takht Sahib deemed it necessary.
According to the statement, Jathedar Gargajj again requested that the Chief Minister provide the names of two forensic laboratories, explaining that Sri Akal Takht Sahib intended to conduct its own examination of the video. He stated that if the video was found to be fake, that fact would be publicly established. If it was found to be genuine, the matter would then be placed before the Khalsa Panth for further decision.
The Jathedar further announced that Sri Akal Takht Sahib would independently arrange forensic examinations through two separate laboratories. At the same time, he said the Punjab government should also facilitate examinations through two laboratories of its own.
The statement highlights that during the discussion, the Chief Minister acknowledged the need for an investigation into the video. It also notes that Sri Akal Takht Sahib informed him that it would independently pursue forensic testing and requested that he provide the names of two laboratories from the government’s side.
According to the statement, Mann remarked that the individual who had circulated the video, Jagman Samra, had previously shared similar content about him and questioned the necessity of a forensic investigation. However, he reportedly added that if Sri Akal Takht Sahib desired such an inquiry, the government would cooperate in arranging it.
The statement concludes by asserting that while the Chief Minister maintained before Sri Akal Takht Sahib that the video was fake, subsequent forensic examination found the video to be genuine. It further claims that despite repeated requests, the names of two government-recommended forensic laboratories have not yet been provided.
