Former Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar has called upon Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislators scheduled to appear before Sri Akal Takht Sahib to listen to their inner conscience and present the truth. In a detailed social media post, Jakhar said the MLAs were at a defining moment where they must decide whether to stand with their Guru or with what he described as an “arrogant Chief Minister.” He expressed hope that they would not become “offenders against the Panth” by supporting someone who was declared Panth Dokhi by Sri Akal Takhar Sahib.
In his statement, Jakhar argued that it is no longer surprising to see individuals who, according to him, challenge Sikh principles while adopting Sikh identity for political purposes. Referring to Sikh teachings, he said Guru Sahib taught that committing injustice is a sin, while silently enduring injustice is an even greater one. He maintained that sincere Sikhs do not submit to temptation or political authority, and those who do cannot claim complete devotion to the Guru.
Jakhar further said that Sikhism embodies sacrifice, faith, dignity, and selfless commitment, rather than loyalty to individuals driven by political power and personal ego. He asserted that history has shown that those who confronted Sri Akal Takht Sahib ultimately failed. He also cautioned the Chief Minister against becoming arrogant because of minor public support, saying that political authority is a blessing bestowed by God and cannot endure without divine grace.
Addressing the MLAs summoned in connection with the proposed sacrilege legislation, Jakhar said they should not only present their views on the law before Sri Akal Takht Sahib, but also respect the Hukamnama which, holds the Chief Minister responsible for offending the Guru, and assure the Takht that appropriate action would be taken.
Jakhar added that if the MLAs believe the Chief Minister is innocent, they should be prepared to affirm before Sri Akal Takht Sahib that:
* the Chief Minister does not appear in the alleged sacrilege-related video;
* the officials who allegedly travelled to Gurugram to procure a fake forensic report did not misuse government machinery and were not attempting to mislead Sri Akal Takht Sahib;
* the press conference conducted by Harpal Cheema and Aman Arora, based on the alleged forged forensic reports, did not constitute disrespect toward Sri Akal Takht Sahib; and
* they should clearly state what stand they would take if the Chief Minister were to confront Sri Akal Takht Sahib in an effort to retain his office.
Jakhar further claimed that had the Chief Minister possessed convincing evidence of his innocence and chosen not to challenge Sri Akal Takht Sahib, he would have appeared personally before the Takht as a humble Sikh.
Concluding his remarks, Jakhar said that the legislators now face a clear choice between remaining loyal to their Guru or standing with what he described as an arrogant leader who has challenged Sri Akal Takht Sahib. He said he hoped they would make the right decision.
