Amritsar (Punjab), July 5, 2026:The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Sunday observed the Foundation Day of Sri Akal Takht Sahib with religious fervour and devotion at the sacred shrine in Amritsar.

Addressing the gathering, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj extended greetings to the Sikh community on the occasion and highlighted the historical importance of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, established by Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji as the supreme temporal seat of the Sikh faith.
He said the establishment of Sri Akal Takht Sahib symbolised that when worldly institutions fail to deliver justice, the Guru’s throne stands as the eternal centre of truth, righteousness and justice for humanity.
Giani Gargaj remarked that history bears witness to the fact that rulers who challenged the supremacy of Sri Akal Takht Sahib faded with time, while the institution has remained steadfast and continues to guide the Sikh Panth.
Calling upon the Sikh community to uphold the dignity and authority of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, he urged the Panth to remain united under its guidance, especially at a time when the community is facing multiple challenges.
Expressing concern over the growing menace of drug abuse, Giani Gargaj appealed to Sikhs to work collectively to protect the youth by connecting them with Gurbani, Naam Simran, selfless service and Sikh values. He said spiritually empowered youth would naturally stay away from social evils, including substance abuse.
He also urged the Sangat to reaffirm their commitment to preserving the supremacy of Sri Akal Takht Sahib while strengthening unity, discipline and Gurmat principles for the continued progress and prosperity of the Khalsa Panth.
A large number of SGPC officials, members, religious scholars, managers of Sri Harmandir Sahib and devotees were present during the commemorative ceremony.
