Himachal Court sentences father to 20 yrs rigorous imprisonment for sexual assault of minor daughter

Chamba (Himachal Pradesh), July 7, 2026: A Special Court in Chamba has sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment after convicting him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for sexually assaulting his minor daughter.
Special Judge Anuja Sood also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict. In default of payment, he will have to undergo an additional two months of simple imprisonment.
According to Joint Director of Prosecutions, Chamba, Digvijay Singh Rana, the case was registered on March 31, 2023, after the victim reported that the accused, identified as Narinder, had sexually assaulted her at their residence on the night of March 27, 2023, while allegedly under the influence of alcohol.
The prosecution stated that the victim informed her stepmother about the incident the following day. She later narrated the incident to a local woman while returning home, who informed an Anganwadi worker. Based on the information received, the police registered an FIR and launched an investigation.
During the trial, the prosecution examined 19 witnesses to support its case. After considering the evidence and witness testimonies, the court found the accused guilty under the provisions of the POCSO Act and sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment along with the fine.
