Breaking: Kewal Singh Dhillon raises 'Satluj' OTT issue with Centre; Review committee formed

New Delhi, July 7, 2026: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced the formation of a three-member review committee to examine the controversy surrounding the removal of Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh's film Satluj from OTT platform ZEE5, following an appeal by Punjab BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon to the Central Government.
Speaking on the issue, BJP National Spokesperson R.P. Singh said the film had not received clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) before being streamed on the OTT platform.
On the removal of the film Satluj from the OTT platform Zee5, BJP national spokesperson RP Singh says, "The movie had not been cleared by the censor board, yet it was running on the OTT. This is why the government banned it. Our Punjab BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon appealed for this to the government of India and a review committee will be made on this, which will be followed by a verdict on the matter."
BJP National Spokesperson R.P. Singh further said that, "In the 90s, there was violence in Punjab, and in the name of violence, innocent people were killed, and they were murdered. They were killed by the police, and the police personnel who stood against this and said 'this is wrong,' those 2,000 police personnel were also killed. And this is a bitter truth, a chapter of Punjab that hasn't healed yet. Jaswant Singh Khalra had raised this whole issue, and later, Jaswant Singh Khalra himself died in a suspicious manner"
According to Singh, the committee will review the circumstances surrounding the film's removal and submit its findings, after which a decision will be taken on the matter.
Who Will Be on the Review Committee Examining Satluj OTT Row?
The review committee constituted to examine the removal of Punjabi film Satluj from OTT platform ZEE5 will be chaired by the Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) and comprise senior officials from key Central ministries along with independent domain experts.
The panel will include ex-officio representatives, generally at the Joint Secretary level or above, from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Ministry of Law and Justice, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), and the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
According According to the framework, the MHA will assess issues related to national security, public order, and communal sensitivity, while the Law Ministry will examine constitutional aspects of free speech, legal precedents, and compliance with judicial directions.ill evaluate issues concerning India's international image and diaspora, particularly as the film remains accessible on ZEE5 Global.
MeitY will oversee the technical aspects of the digital takedown under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, while the Women and Child Development Ministry will review age classification and compliance with the Code of Ethics.
The commitThe committee will also include independent experts from the fields of media, digital content, and law to assist in evaluating whether the film violates the IT Rules' Code of Ethics.
The controversy over Satluj being taken down from ZEE5 has triggered widespread debate in Punjab, with political leaders and members of the Punjabi film industry questioning the move.
Earlier, Kewal Singh Dhillon had sought the Centre's intervention, urging it to review the decision and provide clarity on the reasons behind the film's removal. The announcement of the review committee is being seen as the Centre's response to the appeal.
