Ferozeur youth dies in California; Family appeals to bring home mortal remains
Ferozepur, July 12: Tragedy has struck a family in Punjab's Ferozepur district after a 22-year-old youth from village Moosewala (Guddar Panj Garai), under Guruhar Sahai, passed away during medical treatment in the United States.
The deceased, identified as Mandeep Singh, son of Gurnam Singh, had been living in California for the past four years, where he worked as a food delivery executive after moving abroad in search of better employment opportunities and to support his family's future.
According to family members, Mandeep had been suffering from health complications for the past few days. His condition deteriorated, following which he was admitted to a hospital in California, where he succumbed despite medical treatment.
The heartbreaking news has left the bereaved family, relatives, and residents of the village in deep mourning. Family members said they had taken substantial loans to finance Mandeep's journey to the United States, and the debt has yet to be repaid, making the loss even more devastating.
The family has appealed to the Government of India, the Punjab Government, and humanitarian organisations to assist in bringing Mandeep Singh's mortal remains back to India at the earliest. They said they wish to perform his last rites in his native village according to family traditions.
The incident has once again highlighted the emotional and financial hardships faced by families when young Indians lose their lives abroad, particularly the challenges involved in repatriating mortal remains to their homeland.
