PAU bags Academic Leadership Award 2026, add another feather to its cap
Ludhiana, 13 july 2026- Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, has once again proved why it stands tall among India's premier agricultural institutions. The university has been conferred the Academic Leadership Award 2026 at the 17th Agriculture Leadership Conclave held in New Delhi, a recognition of its commanding role in agri-education, research and extension.
Union Minister of Defence Shri Rajnath Singh presented the award to Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, on July 8, 2026, before a gathering of policymakers, scientists and administrators from across the country. Instituted in 2008, the Agriculture Leadership Awards have grown into one of the most respected national platforms celebrating individuals and institutions that have shaped Indian agriculture and transformed rural livelihoods.
Calling the award a reflection of PAU's approach to blending science, innovation and social relevance, Dr Gosal observed that the honour captures the university's evolving academic and extension model, one that keeps pace with the changing needs of agriculture and society. He pointed to PAU's journey from playing a defining role in the Green Revolution to now leading efforts in climate-resilient farming and a big shift towards Digital Agriculture, Skill development and Agribusiness. He described it as proof of the institution's ability to meet new challenges with scientific insight. He also credited the achievement to the collective effort of faculty, students, staff and the farming community PAU has served for decades.
This latest honour arrives on the back of a remarkable run of recognitions for the university. PAU holds an A+ accreditation with a score of 3.59 out of 4, has topped the NIRF rankings among state agricultural universities for three consecutive years, from 2023 to 2025, and ranked first among 75 State Agricultural and Horticultural Universities in IIRF 2026. It also secured the 93rd global rank in Agricultural Sciences in EduRank 2026, the only State Agricultural University from India to make it into this elite worldwide list.
Sixty-three years into its journey, PAU's story remains one of knowledge built, partnerships forged and communities strengthened. Each new award only sharpens the picture of an institution that keeps setting the benchmark for what agricultural education in India can achieve.
