Ferozepur Police Seize Fake Indian Currency Worth ₹17.35 Lakh; Two Youths Arrested
Ferozepur, July 15, 2026: In a significant breakthrough, the Ferozepur Police have arrested two youths and recovered counterfeit Indian currency with a face value of ₹17.35 lakh from their possession. The accused, both aged between 20 and 22 years, were allegedly acting as couriers for a fake currency racket and were on their way to deliver the consignment.
Addressing the media, DSP City Sukhwinder Singh said that acting on a secret tip-off regarding the movement of a large consignment of counterfeit notes in Ferozepur, police intercepted two motorcycle-borne suspects. During the search, a bag containing fake Indian currency worth ₹17.35 lakh was recovered.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the two accused were working as couriers in the counterfeit currency network, transporting fake notes from one location to another. A case has been registered, and both have been taken into custody.
The police are now investigating the backward and forward links of the racket to identify the source of the counterfeit currency and the intended recipients of the seized consignment. Investigators are also probing whether the fake notes were printed within India or smuggled across the international border. DSP Sukhwinder Singh said all possible angles are being examined, and further arrests and major revelations are expected during the course of the investigation.
The circulation of counterfeit currency poses a serious threat to the nation’s economy by eroding public confidence in the financial system, facilitating organised crime, and funding illegal activities. It can also cause financial losses to unsuspecting citizens and businesses that unknowingly accept fake notes.
