Mukerian (Punjab), July 15, 2026: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the Congress and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), accusing both parties of promoting dynastic politics and putting family interests above the welfare of the people.
Addressing a public gathering at village Khilchian in the Mukerian Assembly constituency, Mann alleged that successive governments led by the Congress and the Badals had ignored public welfare while favouring their own family members.
Taking a swipe at the ongoing infighting within the Punjab Congress, the Chief Minister said the party was “concerned only about its own family,” while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government was focused on improving the lives of ordinary families across the state.
“Congress leaders are busy fighting among themselves for positions, while our government is working for the people of Punjab,” Mann said.
The Chief Minister also targeted the Badal family, alleging that during the Shiromani Akali Dal’s tenure in power, rules were overlooked to appoint relatives to ministerial and other key government posts.
“The Badals ignored all norms and ensured that important positions in the government went to their own relatives, depriving deserving youth of opportunities,” he alleged.
Highlighting his government’s governance model, Mann said the AAP government believes in providing jobs and appointments on the basis of merit rather than political connections or family ties.
He further claimed that Punjab had suffered due to the “loot and patronage politics” of previous governments but asserted that his administration had ushered in an era of transparency and honest governance.
A large number of local residents and party workers attended the public meeting.
