New Delhi, July 21, 2026: Several senior Congress leaders, including Punjab MPs Charanjit Singh Channi and Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, were detained by the Delhi Police on Monday during a protest march organised by the party over the CJP's demands.
The Congress staged a large demonstration against the Centre, alleging injustice towards the country's youth and students and claiming their future was being jeopardised. The party leadership attempted to march towards the Prime Minister's residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg.
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, K.C. Venugopal, Pawan Khera, and several other senior leaders participated in the protest.
Delhi Police had erected heavy barricades to prevent the protesters from advancing towards the Prime Minister's residence. As the leaders attempted to move forward, police intervened and detained several Congress leaders, including Charanjit Singh Channi, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, and a number of other MPs.
The Congress said the protest was organised to press for the CJP's demands and to raise concerns over the alleged treatment of the country's youth and students by the Central government.
