Breaking: SAD (Punar Surjit) expels Iqbal Singh Jhundan for 6 years over 'Anti-Party Activities'

Chandigarh, July 21, 2026: The Shiromani Akali Dal (Punar Surjit) on Tuesday expelled senior leader Iqbal Singh Jhundan from the party's primary membership for six years, citing alleged anti-party activities and violation of organisational discipline.
Announcing the decision, Shiromani Akali Dal (Punar Surjit) Secretary General Gurpartap Singh Wadala said the action was taken on the recommendation of the party's disciplinary committee.
In a written statement, Wadala alleged that Jhundan had earlier convened two meetings without the party's approval and attempted to create divisions within the organisation by misleading party leaders and workers.
He further alleged that Jhundan recently announced plans to join hands with other political parties through a press conference, even though the party had already constituted a coordination committee to facilitate unity with other Panthic parties.
According to Wadala, Jhundan's unilateral move undermined the committee's efforts and damaged the party's discipline and campaign for Panthic unity.
He said the disciplinary committee, headed by party president Gobind Singh Longowal, held a virtual meeting and recommended strict disciplinary action against Jhundan.
