Ferozepur Bar intensifies LADC protest, urges nationwide indefinite 'No Work' strike
Ferozepur, July 27, 2026: The Joint Action Committee of the Bar Associations of Punjab, Haryana and Union Territory Chandigarh has appealed to all Bar Associations, High Court Bar Associations and the legal fraternity across India to join the nationwide indefinite "No Work" agitation against the Legal Aid Defence Counsel (LADC) Policy until it is withdrawn.
The committee stated that Bar Associations in Punjab have been observing an indefinite "No Work" strike since July 7, 2026, while Bar Associations in Haryana have also extended full support to the movement in solidarity with the legal fraternity.
Meanwhile, continuing its agitation, the District Bar Association, Ferozepur organised a 24-hour hunger strike from Monday 10:00 a.m. to Tuesday 10:00 a.m. in protest against the LADC Policy.
The advocates who voluntarily participated in the hunger strike at Ferozepur included Adv. Gursimran Dhillon, Adv. Varinder Singh Sran, Adv. Ramandeep Bath, Adv. Vikas Dhawan, Adv. Baldeep Gill, Adv. Sukhpal Singh, Adv. Gursaab Singh Mal, Adv. Balraj Singh, Adv. Prabhjot Singh, Adv. Gurpreet Singh and Adv. Baldev Singh.
The Joint Action Committee alleged that the LADC Policy is ultra vires the constitutional and statutory framework governing the legal profession. It further contended that the policy undermines the independence, dignity and ethical foundations of the legal profession, adversely affects the quality and independence of legal representation in the larger public interest, and poses a serious threat to the system of independent private legal practice, which has traditionally formed the backbone of the justice delivery system.
Describing the issue as one affecting the future of the legal profession across the country rather than any single state, the committee called upon Bar Associations nationwide to unite and actively participate in the ongoing movement until the policy is withdrawn.
The District Bar Association appreciated the participating advocates for their commitment and dedication to the collective cause, reiterating its resolve to continue the agitation. The Association concluded its message with the slogan, "Unity is our Strength. Together we stand, together we succeed."
