MP Satnam Sandhu seeks entry-exit point at Bajheri Toll Plaza to improve Fatehgarh Sahib connectivity

Chandigarh, August 5, 2026: Rajya Sabha MP Satnam Singh Sandhu on Wednesday raised the issue of improving connectivity to Sri Fatehgarh Sahib by providing an entry-exit point at the Bajheri Toll Plaza on the Mohali IT City–Kurali Expressway.
Raising the matter during Question Hour in the Rajya Sabha, Sandhu said the absence of direct entry and exit points on the newly constructed expressway has created difficulties for residents and farmers of nearby villages, including Pir Sohana, Shakrullapur, Rora, Sotal, Bajheri, Gharanga and Batta.
He urged the Union Government to conduct a technical feasibility study for developing an entry-exit point or a service road near the Bajheri Toll Plaza. Sandhu said the proposed connectivity would provide easier access to Kharar, Kurali and Mohali and benefit thousands of daily commuters.
The MP also highlighted the importance of improved road connectivity for devotees visiting the historic pilgrimage town of Sri Fatehgarh Sahib. He said the town attracts between five lakh and 10 lakh devotees annually, including a large number of pilgrims during the annual Shaheedi Sabha.
“The absence of direct entry and exit points and a connecting road near the Bajheri Toll Plaza has become a major inconvenience for devotees and daily commuters, who are forced to take longer routes,” Sandhu said.
Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Government for the ₹2,300-crore, 30-km-long Mohali IT City–Kurali six-lane Greenfield Expressway, Sandhu said the project had improved regional connectivity and helped ease traffic congestion. However, he added that the lack of an entry-exit facility near Bajheri continued to affect access to Sri Fatehgarh Sahib.
Responding to the issue, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari assured the House that he would personally examine the matter.
He invited Sandhu for a detailed discussion after Question Hour and said the concerned officials would be asked to study the issue and explore an appropriate solution.
Sandhu expressed hope that the proposed entry-exit point or service road would improve connectivity for nearby villages, farmers, daily commuters and devotees travelling to Sri Fatehgarh Sahib.
