Indian Embassy in Slovenia defaced; MEA demands action against perpetrators

New Delhi, August 10, 2026: The Indian Embassy premises in Slovenia were defaced by alleged anti-India elements, prompting a strong response from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), which has called for those responsible to be brought to justice.
The MEA condemned the incident and said the matter has been taken up firmly with Slovenian authorities in both New Delhi and Ljubljana.
Emphasising the seriousness of the incident, the ministry said, “Under the Vienna Convention, diplomatic premises are inviolable and must be protected.” It urged Slovenian law enforcement agencies to take firm action against those responsible for the defacement.
The MEA also called for action against what it described as hateful propaganda and disinformation being disseminated by anti-India elements.
The incident comes amid continued diplomatic engagement between India and Slovenia.
Last month, India’s Ambassador to Slovenia Amit Narang met Slovenia’s Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Tone Kajzer to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral diplomatic and economic cooperation.
The Embassy of India in Ljubljana said the discussions focused on concrete steps to develop India-Slovenia relations into a mutually beneficial partnership.
Bilateral engagement was also highlighted on June 24, when MEA Secretary (West) Sibi George represented India at Slovenia’s National Day celebrations in New Delhi. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening the longstanding India-Slovenia partnership and expanding cooperation in new areas.
Earlier, on May 28, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Janez Jansa on his election as Slovenia’s Prime Minister and expressed his intention to work towards further strengthening bilateral ties.
The latest incident has drawn attention against the backdrop of these ongoing diplomatic efforts between the two countries.
