Chandigarh, August 16, 2026: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president and former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal has been discharged from Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, where he was undergoing treatment after an attack in Nanded, Maharashtra.
Badal was admitted to the hospital on August 14, a day after he was allegedly attacked at Gurdwara Mata Sahib in Nanded.
Following his discharge, his wife and SAD MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal shared a photograph showing stitches on his arms. She said Sukhbir Badal had received more than 150 stitches following the attack.
According to Harsimrat, the assailant allegedly attempted to strike Sukhbir Badal in the chest with a sharp-edged weapon around 1.5 feet long. She said Badal tried to defend himself, during which the weapon struck his hands and arms, causing serious injuries.
Harsimrat has raised questions over the circumstances surrounding the incident and alleged that there could be a deeper conspiracy behind the attack.
In a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, she has sought a probe by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) into the incident. She has argued that the nature and circumstances of the attack warrant a thorough investigation by the central agency.
The demand for an NIA probe comes as Sukhbir Badal recovers from his injuries following the attack at the religious shrine.
