Jalandhar Youth Congress launches ‘Better Cities’ campaign, announces legal support for citizens

Jalandhar (Punjab), August 15, 2026: The Jalandhar Youth Congress has launched the ‘Better Cities’ campaign to document civic problems faced by residents and take their genuine concerns to the concerned authorities through formal channels.
Speaking at the launch, Angad Dutta, District President, Jalandhar Youth Congress (Urban), said the initiative would work as a bridge between citizens and government authorities by helping residents raise their issues and follow up on the action taken.
Dutta said the campaign would go beyond submitting memorandums and would provide legal assistance where genuine public grievances remain unaddressed.
“If a genuine public grievance is ignored or the authorities fail to act, we will take the matter to the appropriate legal forum, including the courts. Our legal team will assist citizens in pursuing their genuine grievances through lawful means,” he said.
The campaign will focus on a range of civic issues, including garbage management, drinking water, roads, drains, sewerage, air quality, streetlights, public transport, parks, government schools and health centres.
Residents will be encouraged to identify their priority concerns. These issues will then be submitted to the relevant authorities in writing, with the campaign proposing to make the date of submission and the response—or lack of response—public.
Support for Police Complaints and FIR-Related Grievances
The Youth Congress also announced that the campaign will assist citizens who face difficulties in getting complaints formally recorded by the police or obtaining an FIR where they believe registration is legally warranted.
Dutta said citizens with genuine grievances would be helped in understanding the lawful procedure and, where appropriate, in approaching senior police officials or the competent legal forum.
A public assistance helpline, 8728888847, has been announced for citizens seeking assistance with unrecorded complaints, FIR-related concerns and other genuine public issues.
The organisation said cases would be taken up through lawful and appropriate channels.
‘Mehnat Ke Haath’ to Highlight Workers’ Issues
As part of the campaign, the Youth Congress will also launch the ‘Mehnat Ke Haath’ initiative to highlight the dignity, contributions and working conditions of sanitation workers, domestic workers, security guards, drivers, street vendors and delivery workers.
The organisers said the Better Cities campaign is open to citizens irrespective of their political affiliation and will focus on raising local concerns before the authorities and following them up until a response is received.
Angad Dutta said the initiative aims to provide residents with a structured platform to raise genuine civic and public grievances and pursue them through democratic and legal means.
