Gurdaspur (Punjab), September 2, 2026: Private school bus transporters across Punjab will hold a Maha Panchayat at the Dana Mandi in Bathinda on September 3 to press for their demands, with a large number of transporters and drivers from Sri Hargobindpur Sahib in Gurdaspur district expected to participate.
According to Harpreet Singh Palla, school bus drivers and transporters associated with private schools in Ghuman, Sri Hargobindpur Sahib and adjoining areas have been participating in the ongoing state-level protest over their demands.
Palla said transporters and drivers from the area would actively participate in the strike and travel to Bathinda for the Maha Panchayat.
He said the transporters would raise their demands and concerns before the government during the September 3 gathering. Transporters and drivers from various parts of Punjab are expected to attend the Maha Panchayat.
Meanwhile, managements of private schools in the area have extended support to the transporters’ protest. School authorities said they stood with the transporters on their demands.
However, the school managements clarified that schools would remain open despite the transporters’ strike.
As a result, school bus services are likely to be affected during the strike, while educational institutions in the area will continue to function as usual.
