Chandigarh, September 3, 2026: Congress MP Amar Singh on Thursday said the party would seek to provide better welfare facilities to journalists and media personnel in Punjab if it returns to power in the state.
Speaking in Chandigarh after meeting representatives of the Punjab and Chandigarh Journalists Union, Singh said several issues concerning journalists were raised during the meeting.
He said the key demands included healthcare facilities for journalists, pensions for retired media personnel, travel benefits and free bus passes for Punjab Government buses.
Singh said Congress leaders would make efforts to fulfil as many of the demands of journalists and media workers as possible.
“If we form the government, we will provide these facilities to journalists and media staff,” he said.
Amar Singh Questions Appointment of Jeetendra Mishra as Ram Mandir Trust CEO
On the appointment of Air Marshal Jeetendra Mishra (Retd.) as the first Chief Executive Officer of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, Singh questioned the BJP's handling of issues related to the Ram Mandir.
Singh alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had been at the forefront of taking credit for the construction of the Ram Mandir and its foundation-laying ceremony, but alleged that there was silence when questions were raised over alleged irregularities involving donations.
Referring to Mishra's appointment, Singh said that a person with a respected record, including his service in Operation Sindoor, had now been appointed to the post.
He alleged that the individual's reputation was being used to divert attention from the underlying issues.
“You are not giving any response yourself, but you are using his reputation. You want to divert the issue,” Singh said.
