Tarun Chugh accuses Punjab Govt of suppressing public vote through police action

New Delhi, September 4, 2026: BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Chugh has accused the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government of allegedly using police action to suppress public dissent and the voice of citizens.
Reacting to the alleged treatment of Mohan Jeet Singh Sidhu, Chugh described the incident as “extremely alarming” and condemned what he called alleged police brutality.
Chugh said it was “shameful and concerning” that a Punjab citizen could allegedly be subjected to such treatment merely for asking a question. He held the state government responsible for the incident and demanded accountability.
The BJP leader said he had written to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) seeking immediate action in the matter.
Chugh also demanded stringent action against the police officials allegedly involved in the incident, saying those responsible for the alleged brutality should face the strictest possible action.
