Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan-2026: Sangrur DC urges players to participate in large numbers

Sangrur (Punjab), September 9, 2026: Deputy Commissioner Poonamdeep Kaur has urged sportspersons from Sangrur district to participate in large numbers in the fourth edition of Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan-2026, saying the event provides an important platform for players of different age groups to showcase and develop their talent.
Addressing a press conference along with Sangrur MLA Narinder Kaur Bharaj, the Deputy Commissioner said the Punjab Government’s sports initiative had helped take organised sporting activities to the grassroots level while encouraging people to adopt a healthier and more active lifestyle.
This year’s edition is expected to draw participation from up to 10 lakh players across Punjab. Players can register either online or offline, with offline registration available through the office of the District Sports Officer.
MLA Narinder Kaur Bharaj said the games, launched in 2022 under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, had contributed significantly to strengthening Punjab’s sporting culture. She said around five lakh players had participated in the games so far, while the participation target has now been increased to 10 lakh.
The 2026 edition will feature competitions in 38 sports, along with Tennis Ball Cricket as an exhibition sport and four para-sports disciplines. Competitions will be organised across nine age categories. Winners will receive prize money exceeding ₹12 crore, in addition to gradation certificates.
The sporting calendar has been planned in multiple stages. Block-level competitions in seven sports are being conducted until September 18, followed by district-level competitions from September 20 to 30, covering 28 sports. The state-level competitions in 38 sports will take place from October 10 to November 23, while para-sports competitions are scheduled from November 25 to 28.
Poonamdeep Kaur said the district administration was making detailed arrangements to ensure that the competitions are conducted smoothly. She encouraged players to use the opportunity not only to compete but also to gain experience, sharpen their sporting skills and pursue higher levels of achievement.
The initiative is expected to provide athletes from Sangrur and other districts with opportunities to compete at different levels while promoting wider participation in sports across Punjab.
Assistant Commissioner Rajbir Singh Bhangu, Zila Parishad Chairman Rachhpal Singh Bhullar, Improvement Trust Sangrur Chairman Pritam Singh Peetu, Block President Moonak-Lehragaga Karamjit Singh Rajlahedi and District President of Virasat Seva Sangathan Charanjit Singh Chann were also present at the press conference.
